Lib Dem Councillors support Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is coming up of December 3rd. This is an annual nationwide event that encourages people to shop local and support the small, independent businesses that make up our high streets. Nearly a hundred firms across Sheffield are taking part.
Lib Dem councillor Martin Smith, chair of the Economic Development and Skills committee, said “We’re proud to support Small Business Saturday every year, it’s an exciting opportunity to show our support for local businesses that kept the city going through the pandemic.
These firms create jobs, provide a sense of community, and develop skills in our local workforce. Many small businesses also host community events that are really making a difference in today’s difficult economic climate.
It’s incredibly difficult to be managing a small business right now and it’s important that we get out there and support them during the busiest shopping period of the year”.
Business owner Anna Coupland from Heritage Lifestyle and Martha’s Neighbourhood Kitchen in Millhouses said “it’s really tough for small firms like ours at the moment. We’re part of the local community and we’re very grateful for the amazing support they give us”.
Other work underway to support small businesses includes the second round of the Economic Recovery Fund, which was agreed at the Economic Development and Skills committee last month.
This is a new fund of £2,000,000, aiming to build the foundations for economic renewal across Sheffield by investing in communities and high streets across the city.
